All during the race, it’s been bothering me trying to figure out who Marcus reminded me of…and now I’ve figured it out. How do you think Amani and Marcus feel hearing someone compare The Race to a special-needs child? After last week's heavily edited “look how tolerant Jennifer is” moment with regards to other religions, I found this pretty interesting. But then, Jennifer referred to the Race as her “special baby.” Just when I thought she was being sensitive, it turns out she was actually being insulting. Amani and Marcus talked about having a special-needs child, and Jennifer talked about teaching Special Ed. ![]() Teams were all on the same flight to Malawi, so the first few minutes were spent talking about the teams From the Pit Stop of Bangkok, teams learned that they had to travel more than 5,000 miles to Malawi in Africa. The twins had no money! But at least they had an elephant-gasm, right? Team NFL came in first place, while the Twins were eliminated partially because, you guessed it, they had no money. ![]() Previously on The Amazing Race…The twins had no money. Who’s trapped under a bed? Why are the teams building toy trucks? And who hasn’t paid their driver? That’s right, people…while you’re waiting 29 minutes for the show to start, we Canucks are up here eating back bacon and maple syrup while the show starts promptly at 8:00 pm.Īfter last week’s elephant-tastic episode, the teams are off to Africa for the sixth leg of the Race. But implementing these unique aspects has created a gaming experience that you won’t soon forget.Before I get to tonight’s recap, I just need to mention that I absolutely love watching The Amazing Race on CTV here in Canada, because I don’t have to deal with delays caused by NFL football or golf. Without the ability to alter your perception so continuously, Darq could have become white noise in the indie-horror scene where so many developers are attempting to replicate the success Playdead has seen. This adds a level of urgency to the puzzle that few games have achieved in the past.īesides the fact that your vertigo may be triggered by this game (I speak from personal experience on that point), the physics-bending mechanics implemented by Unfold Games are truly unique and innovative. If you fail to solve the puzzle before she reaches the end of the hallway, you’ll be treated to a horrific scene of the woman lunging at you for the kill. Her head and body are bandaged like a mummy and, based on your first encounter with this woman earlier in the game, you know she means business. When the camera pans around the room, you’ll find that an old woman in a wheelchair is slowly wheeling towards where you start solving the maze. In addition to the timed and blind aspect of this puzzle, there’s another sinister element that’s sure to stick with you long after you’ve beaten the game. If you don’t have the maze solved already, you’ll waste precious time. This mechanic is expecting players to already solve the puzzle before they even start it because the brief moments you have to see your progress through the maze need to be used to memorize your next set of turns. ![]() Eventually, the camera will come back to show you where your peg has progressed for a few seconds, but it will continue panning, so you’d better remember the next few turns of the maze. Seems easy enough, right? Unfortunately, as soon as you start the maze, the camera will pan slowly around the room so that you can no longer see the maze. The objective is simple: get the peg to the center of the maze. Our protagonist Lloyd is presented with a large round labyrinth hanging on a wall. Timed puzzles are nothing new in gaming, but add to that your inability to see the puzzle for more than a few seconds, and you’ll suddenly find yourself in the most terrifying memory challenge ever. But the most unsettling game mechanic comes in the form of a puzzle near the end of the game. You may actually wonder how the game developers could possibly think of so many ways to alter your perception of reality. ![]() As the game continues to progress, more and more mind-bending and physics-defying mechanics are introduced. ![]()
